SUFFOLK TOWNS & VILLAGES – AT A GLANCE

  • Lavenham is a medieval village in the heart of Suffolk and the filming location for Godric’s Hollow in Harry Potter. Its high street is a medley of antique shops, pubs, restaurants and places to stay. 
  • New meets old in Bury St Edmunds. Foodies and theatregoers love the town’s restaurants, markets and Theatre Royal. History buffs love the town’s abbey ruins and surrounding countryside.
  • Halesworth is a historic market town with walking and cycling routes to the gorgeous Suffolk Coast. Its vibrant theatre is celebrated every September at the annual HighTide Festival.
  • Unravel the past at Woodbridge on the River Deben. Watch traditional milling at its 800-year-old working tide mill, or uncover the ship burial of an Anglo-Saxon king at nearby Sutton Hoo.
  • As well as historical charm, Woodbridge boasts a vibrant market, boutique shops, delicious eateries and many places to stay. It even has its very own seafood festival – that gets a big thumbs up from us.
  • Driving from London or the Midlands shouldn't take much longer than 2 hours. Trains from London will take you into Suffolk and shouldn’t take much more than 1.5 hours. The nearest airports are Stansted and Norwich.
